Founded in 1993 by a handful of amateur historians, the Bay County Civil War Round Table now counts more than 45 sustaining members who share common interest in the watershed events which occurred between the Aprils of 1861 and 1865. The history and human drama of this epoch struggle continue to intrigue an enthusiastic group of 20th Century Bay County citizens as this club seeks to bring history alive.

Club membership is as diverse as Bay County's population. It includes educators, attorneys, active & retired military, business owners, and working men & women. The age span ranges from high school to one or two who might speak of the Civil War from personal memories. Several members are also reenactors, who portray the 11th Florida Infantry, others, the 7th Illinois. Our Round Table is affiliated with the Civil War Round Table Association and has featured an excellent slate of speakers and exhibitors.

Founder Jay Lacey's initiative has sparked the Round Table monthly programs, which feature nationally-known and local historians. Some guest speakers are widely known for their knowledge and scholarship. Dr. James N. Eaton, Florida A & M's distinguished Professor of History and Geography, and one of the nation's leading Reconstruction Era historians, was one of our earliest visiting experts. Richard McMurray, famed author and college professor, has thrice been to us as well as Mississippi State's William L. Giles, Distinguished Professor, and noted writer John F. Marszalek. Add in the SCV's national speaker, Nelson Winbush, Atlanta's famed historian Steve Davis and New Orleans' Dr. Richard Datzman, the knowledgeable & multi-authored William C. Davis, and one can easily see this club draws some super speakers.

The Bay County Civil War Round Table welcomes prospective members, visitors, or the merely curious who would like to check out the activity. All are invited to attend monthly meetings: the 2nd Thursday of every month, 7 pm, Grace Presbyterian Church, 1415 Airport Road, Panama City, FL.
